Root canal treatments are how we preserve a damaged tooth so it can be saved. If a tooth is badly damaged the inner soft tissues of the tooth can be exposed to infection. The infection can weaken the tooth and surrounding tissues and cause the tooth to be lost. Root canal treatment removes the infection.
How does root canal treatment work?
In a typical root canal, we remove the infected inner tissues through a small hole that is drilled in the tooth. Once the tissue is removed, we can then disinfect the tooth to keep it safe from future infections, and then we close the hole with a filling.
After the root canal is completed, we can restore the tooth with a dental crown.
A sharp toothache or sensitivity to hot or cold are possible signs of a tooth infection. If you are experiencing these symptoms, make an appointment for a dental examination.
